Styx was well known for their large if not esoteric arrangements that drew upon symphonic influences. Tommy Saw was largely responsible for moving the band towards a more commercial bent and giving it a mass-market appeal, he released the "Crystal Ball" and "Kilroy was Here" albums with them. Shaw contributed heavily on the writing of "The Grand Illusion" which was released in 1977. The band eventually disbanded, but like many nostalgic acts of the 70's, they re-formed in 1990 and continue to perform.
