In the late 1960's Alex Lifeson formed the band Rush with Geddy Lee and John Rutsey. The band was known for their epic songwriting and interest in science fiction & fantasy. In the mid 70's Rutsy was replaced by the new main songwriter Neil Peart. The Canadian Government awarded Rush the title of "Official Ambassadors of Music" in 1979, and the Order of Canada in 1997. They became mainstream in 1980 with the surprise hit single, "The Spirit Of Radio". After a small break in 1996 they returned to record the album, 'Test For Echo', they are still considered the leading rock band in Canada, having wone 8 Juno awards and 2 Grammy nominations.
